Since we live so close to the family-owned Davie restaurant we don't often venture out to Char-Hut franchise locations. We are certainly glad we did this time. We had excellent service from very friendly staff member named Mojo, who explained to us that we could get Char-Hut classic items even if they weren't listed on the more compact franchise menu. The food was not as good as the family-owned location, since the fellow who dressed our burgers managed to sauce only half of each burger, but the counter service may actually have been better. Clearly this location deserves to bear its name!

I really wanted this place to be great, the name called to me, and when I noticed they were building this one I became excited, but what a let down. I ordered the chicken sandwich and it was just okay, it's lacking flavor but it was fresh. I also ordered the rosemary fries and I didn't like it at all. I returned it and the young man was nice enough to replace it with onion rings which was also a huge disappointment, it was super greasy and tasted like oil. I didn't bother complaining, i just threw it in the garbage. My friend sweet potato fries were also greasy. I will give them 1 more chance to redeem themselves then give an update.

Love Char-Hut on 84. I think they need to rethink franchising. Waited for 25 minutes to place order while manager type rund between to POSs with no explaination or apology for wait. Very disappointed with customer service. Sadly, we won't be back. To top it off they got a simple chicken sandwich all wrong.

I've been to this particular Char-Hut twice, on both occasions ordering their mainstay 1/3rd pound Char-Burger done rare. Admittedly I happen to be somewhat of a picky snit about my burgers, enjoying them done rare since to my taste they tend have a more pronounced meat flavor and admit to the fact that I like to bite thick meat and when I bite meat, I like to see and taste some juicy blood. But shhhhh! I'd rather word of that preference not get out, especially into the gay community. LOL! Unfortunately the burger meat at Char-Hut, though being all of 1/3rd pound is flattened out so thin that when prepared the only results that seem to be obtainable are medium to well done. The meat, however is noticeably fresh as are the buns which have a good flavor and texture. Though Char-Hut is a chain, it's a very small chain having approximately four area outlets, founded in Miami in 1976. Though small and being family run they seem to have a pronounced chainy rather than a mom and pop décor or family feeling about them. Indeed, they have a feeling about them very much like that of a Burger King, a Wendy's or a Burger Fi. Overall, the inside is bright, super clean, well-organized, the staff helpful, polite and the seating both inside and on the patio outside pleasant. For a burger, at least done the way I like them, I would of course put Char-Hut way above the likes of McDonalds, not any better than a Burger King or a Wendy's but a far cry below the likes of our local Jack's Old Fashioned, ROK:BRGR, 5 Girls Burgers, Burgers & Suds, Charm City, those of Gilbert's 17th Street Grill, or the MYM burger of Mind Your Manors.

I knew it was a bad sign when I walked in with my co-workers at noon and we were the only customers there. Onto the food. I didn't know a burger could taste so bland. Like no joke I could give this to a vegetarian and they would have no clue they were eating cow. How bout some salt and pepper? The bun, lettuce tomatoes and cooked onions were all flavorless. The cooked mushrooms tasted like they have been sitting around a long time or were expired when they cooked them. I have had better burgers at Burger King. The onion rings were pretty good, but didn't make up for the horrible burger. And the price for a combo cheeseburger, onion rings and drink is $11. Ouch, that is overpriced for this lack of quality. Save your money go to the many other better burger options nearby. Filling Station, Beer and Suds, Jack's Old Fashioned, Five Guys or BurgerFi.

So I came here today cause my best friend wanted to come here for lunch and it was close to his house. I read some of the reviews and was a little skeptical, but I gave it a shot. Let's start with the restaurant itself. It was very clean and seemed to be very well maintained. The food....I ordered the double chicken sandwich on wheat with sweet potato fries and a drink. I was a little discouraged as the fountain drink machine seemed to be out of quite a few of the drink flavor a including the one I wanted. Then I got my food. I had read on here about greasy sweet potato fries. That wasn't the case at all. They were actually cooked to perfection. So either someone read the reviews or there are inconsistencies in their cooks. The chicken was just as others said. Bland and flavorless. It was also pretty messy to eat and the bread got soggy very quickly. It wasn't terrible but I'm also not going to go out of my way to come here for lunch; however, I would come again and maybe try one of the burgers.

Oh yeah! Char-Hut really stepped it up with their grand opening in Fort Lauderdale this month! New layout, look, feel, totally all modern and stuff! The menu seems similar (haven't been to the older locations in awhile), but they have lots of options for burgers, chicken sandwiches, fish, veggie burgers, and tons of sides. They have fries, onion strings, sweet potato fries, salads... You get to see them cooking the burgers to order and they have a whole toppings area they add for you at no cost (think grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, lettuce, tomatoes, etc). Very clean as they do all the adding for you! They have the great freestyle coke machines, in addition to wine and beer. Even noticed Funky Buddha on tap! I think they would benefit from having combos, it can get a little pricey ordering everything a la carte. Only other minor issue was the length of time to receive food. However, with new employees and new customers with lots of questions, I'm sure that will get worked out soon.

I have been going to Char-Hut since way back when (like 20 years or so) and this new restaurant is a huge improvement over the original. The menu looks the same and I have been to this new location twice, but so far my favorite is the grilled chicken on a pita with a side of frings (onion rings + french fires). The classic burger on a poppy seed bun brings back memories and is still very good. I am glad to see the modern interior and classic good looks an the fact that they kept the fire pit view exactly the same as the original. It is nice to see a improvement on the classic and I will be back again.

Started at this place with a Groupon which turned into a nightmare trying to use it. Not sure if it was a groupon thing or a Char Hut thing but either way is was horrible. The restaurant is clean and staff are friendly. The burgers are ok but there are up charges for everything, even when you get the 9.99 deal. You HAVE to watch the register. You order a burger and they ask what cheese and any cheese is an up charge. The 9.99 deal list three options for fries, onion rings, or sweet potato fries and there is an up charge for onion rings. The onion rings taste like old crisco- they're disgusting. The burgers aren't bad but overall for the price not worth it. I won't be back - ever.

ABSOLUTLEY love everything about this place! The staff is incredibly friendly and the food is fantastic. Terrific customer service on so many levels. I have been eating Char-Hut since I was a little kid, and was thrilled that they opened up this new location in Ft. Lauderdale. Home made hot sauce is amazing, everything is fresh made to order and totally puts 5 guys to shame! I now live in Orlando, but whenever I return to south Florida to visit I make sure to eat here as often as possible.

I won't be back! Nice decor. They clearly invested some money to make the restaurant look nice and they keep it clean. The food was passable too. I've been eating at Char Huts since the 1980s and while this wasn't their worst, it was not their best. It seemed a bit different than other CH's I have gone to and even seemed like they were trying to emulate Smashburger. But the service - as other reviewers have noted here - was atrocious. The cashier was nice but the person who puts the toppings on the burger was rude. First, when she got the burger from the grill (signaling it was time to start putting the toppings on) she instead turned to her co-worker to try to engage her in conversation - while I'm standing there. Her co-worker after about 20 seconds had to tell the topping girl to take care of the burger. Then when I was telling the topping girl what I wanted on it she cut me off and yelled at me. I politely repeated what I wanted. After topping the burger off she turns and looks at me with a big grin and I had to remind her to include the fries. Finally, she slides me the grub and sarcastically thanks me. If the owner and manager care about their restaurant they really need to get more involved and ensure that the service matches the decor. It seems that the owner and manager either don't really care or they don't know how to manage a restaurant. There are too many quality competitors out there to put up with this nonsense and judging by the nearly empty place at 7PM other people have voted to not come either.

1st and last time... Very disappointed with the service and general attitude of the employees. One older gentleman complained that they were very disorganized and was told by the staff not to return if that was the case. Our food was mixed up with someone else's and rather than making a new chicken sandwich the guy scraped the wrong cheese off the sandwich to try and replace it with the correct slice. Dry fries and angry servers. Totally not worth the trouble. Won't catch me there again. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Burger here is not half bad. Fresh and cooked well. Here is my problem with this place (management take note!). General attitude of employees was lackluster. In a place that is basically burger and fries, how can you screw up fries? As many have noted here they're fried products are very greasy. I watched the kid at the fryer take old fries from under the heat lamp and put back into the fryer to heat up. This is totally unacceptable in any restaurant. I hope management can retrain there employees as I'm sure this would not be restaurant policy.

Went here for lunch and ordered online to make it a little faster! It was a pretty easy process and when I got there, no waiting! Walked right up and got my order. I had the black bean burger and my husband had the Mahi Mahi sandwich. I have to say both were really good. Good flavor on the black bean burger and the fish was not over cooked! The sweet potato fries were still piping hot and crispy! Nice and clean place! Would definitely recommend and will go back!

I was very excited when a char-hut opened by my office. Before I could only visit occasionally when I was traveling west on 595. Once you enter this store you can really tell Char-Hut has entered the 21st century (all of the other stores kinda look like old Miami Subs) I was greeted at register by a man with a panthers hat who kindly explained the new menu. I settled on a char chicken and char rosemary fries. Next time im going to get the char combo for $10, just to save a few bucks. Im glad to have char hut back.

Loved the Char Hut on West Commercial in the early 90's. Used to have lunch there almost every day as I worked at the airport there. What a disappointment... nuff said...

The new menu items are definitely a plus! Can't wait to try them all. Tonight was a treat I had a veggie burger and hubby enjoyed his beef. They weren't real busy when we walked in so that was good-but the crowd came afterwards. The cooks and prep workers worked well together that's always a plus.

Beyond disappointed. Overpriced tasteless burgers. Will not be back. We were looking forward to this place, however, it lacked taste.

Very disappointed. First off i dont need 30 people touching my food. I actually watched the kid behind the grill wipe his face with a paper towel and rub his head and then grab cheese to put on a burger without changing gloves. Gross! You can tell managment doesnt have it all together. I gave them 3 trys since they have opened. Failed

I was so excited this place opened up. The others I have been to were so good. This place misses the boat. Seemed like it took seventeen employees to make my order. Then they gave my burger to someone else. I don't think the guy ever stood in line or paid. Just went to the end of the line said it was his and they gave it to him. I had to wait while all seventeen of them tried to coordinate to remake it. Sadly, they did no better on the 2nd try. Could not get it right. I ordered it with lettuce, tomato, and pickle. Who are these people? Burger King flunkies? Food was not like the other places. The menu is different than the other locations as well. Don't bother.

I love Char-Hut, but this new one is not doing so well. The shredded and chopped lettuce were very wilted and needed to be thrown out. My bun was stale and not fresh. This was my 3rd visit to this location and the first time I was able to have lunch here. The 1st and 2nd time the line was so long and not moving, so after about 15 minutes I left. Serious mismanagement, hopefully they can pull it together soon.

So disappointing! This is definitely not the char hut I've known and loved for all these years. I was so excited they were opening up in the same location I fell in love with them 25 years ago. I was there the first day they just opened in Oakland park. It wasn't good - there was something terribly wrong with the lettuce - it smelled awful. The burger tasted terrible. I thought maybe it was first day mess up, but I went back tonight and it was even worse. No one knew what they were doing. Both the whole iceberg and shredded iceberg lettuce were brown and wilted. The burger meat was tough and tasteless. Must be different owners or else the owners have sold out and compromised their original great quality. Will not go back.
